Client software to access the servers

The Netscape Calendar Server can only be used by the Netscape Calendar Client, which is part of the Netscape Communicator Suite or by the Oracle Calendar Client..
You can find both Calendar Clients here. (make sure to read the README.calendar first, otherwise you might not have the Calendar client installed correctly).

Calendar Server Stops on 16/nov/2009

You can keep an electronic agenda with your meetings, events etc. with the Netscape Calendar Server. This Calendar Server allows you to schedule meetings with other members of the department that use it as well. The Calendar Server can look for available rooms and check whether all members of a meeting can attend it.

Netscape Calendar is started :

  • either from the `Communicator' menu in any Netscape Communicator window
  • or with the `nscal' command in a shell.
You can type in your name (e.g. John Doe) to open your agenda. If your last name contains spaces, you need to replace the space by a ^ (e.g. John von^Doe). You can also look up a name using the button with the looking glass. You are then presented a window with which you can look for somebody based on some search criteria.

Next, you must specify the server to use: remove Off-line from the Server Name field and type calendar.cs.kuleuven.ac.be.

Then type in your normal Unix/NIS password and press OK ... the Netscape Calendar windows should appear and you are all set to create meetings, events, ...

If you have any questions regarding the use of the Calendar, please consult the help pages below before contacting the programmeur van week:

Off-line Netscape Calendar

On 16/nov/2009 Netscape Calendar is replaced by a new calendar system. You can reach the new calendar online with: https://zimbra.cs.kuleuven.be Until 16/11/2009 You can only consult the above Netscape Calendar when you are on-line; i.e. when you can establish a TCP/IP connection to the calendar server (calendar.cs.kuleuven.ac.be).

This is of course not always possible and therefore, the Netscape Calendar can keep an off-line version. This off-line version, which is stored on your local machine (e.g. a portable), can be accessed at any time, even when you are not connected to a network. You can view the existing, but also enter new meetings, events, ... in it. When you are connected to a network again, you can login to the Calendar Server and synchronize your off-line calendar with the central, on-line calendar.

You synchronize on-line and off-line calendars using the Download to and Upload from Local File options in the File menu. Consult the on-line help (with the Help menu) for more information and instructions on how to configure it.

Palm and Psion Organizers to Netscape Calendar Synchronization Stopped on 16/11/2009

To synchronize the data on your Palm Organizer with your Netscape Calendar, consult this page.

There is also software to synchronize a Psion Organizer, but we have little experience with it.
