Microsoft Windows Printer Problems
You have rebooted first, haven't you ?
-
Most Windows problems are resolved automagically by simply rebooting ;-)
If you still have problems, you can try this:
-
Delete all departmental printers from your system via the Printers and Faxes window
-
Reboot to make sure they are really gone
-
Open a connection to the Samba server of your choice.
(change server-name.cs.kuleuven.be below to the name of the server you want
to use)
- Start -> Run
- Type \\server-name.cs.kuleuven.be and hit Enter
- If asked for, give your username and (Samba) password
-
Drag all printers you want to use (either one by one or all together)
from the Samba server window to your Printer and Faxes window
-
Accept the printer driver the Samba server is offering to install.
-
Try to print something.
-
If it works, remember to create a shortcut on your Desktop to the Samba
server you installed the printers from. You need to connect to it each
time you want to print. (It might work without connecting explicitly, but
it might not just the same ... connect to be sure)
-
If it doesn't work, check to see if your firewall isn't in the way.
If there is a firewall active, turn it off and try the above again ... if
that works, change your firewall configuration to allow printer access
from your system to the Samba server you selected.
-
If it still doesn't work, even without your firewall, check with your
system group representative if it is a general problem or only with your
system.
