DeptCW Wireless
There are a number of wireless access point in building Celestijnenlaan 200A.
These access points have both 802.11g (54Mbps à 2,4 Ghz and compatible with 802.11b) and 802.11a (54Mbps à 5GHz).
On these access points there are (at least) 3 wireless networks available: eduroam, kuleuven and kuleuven-guest.
These access points and wireless networks on them are implemented/maintained by central KULeuven ICTS:
- a short overview of basic connection instructions is given below.
- consult https://admin.kuleuven.be/icts/services/wifi for more detailed instructions including screen grabs etc.
Connection instructions:
- You can/must use DHCP to get a working network configuration on/for either network.
- As DHCP is the most common protocol used by ISPs, your computer probably already is configured to do so.
- When connecting, you need to authenticate yourself to get access to the KULeuven networks and to the Internet.
- The exact authentication method varies according to the network, see below for details
kuleuven-guest
- clear text wireless or cabled network
- no network access until succesfully authenticated as shown on the CS-CampusNet page.
- do notice that on wireless kuleuven-guest only guest-accounts cn0035* can log in
- if you have another type of KULeuven account (student or personnel), you should use one of the other wireless networks
- try to avoid using the wireless kuleuven-guest network because it is not encrypted and easily sniffable!
kuleuven
- encrypted wireless network
- no network access until succesfully authenticated using a KULeuven personel account u1234567@kuleuven.be
- see detailed instructions below
eduroam
- encrypted wireless network
- no network access until succesfully authenticated using:
- either KULeuven [mrs]1234567@kuleuven.be (students), a1234567@kuleuven.be (personel) or er0035*@kuleuven.be (guests) accounts
- or your own eduroam account from your home institution
- see detailed instructions below unless you are connecting with your own eduroam account from your home institution (in which case you probably need to follow their instructions ;-)
Detailed instructions for both eduroam and kuleuven
- Most of the instructions below are written for eduroam, but work in the same way for the kuleuven network
- The @kuleuven.be part in your account name is important; without it you will not be able to connect
- Configure your connection to use:
- WPA2-Enterprise with AES encryption
- Microsoft Protected EAP (PEAP) authentication
- Do not let your system remember your logon credentials !
- Enable Validate server certificate
- Connect to radius.kuleuven.be
- Accept/Trust the AddTrust External Root certificate
- Consider whether you would like to be prompted to authorize new servers or certificates
- Select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)
- Do not automatically use logon name and password
- On the KULeuven eduroam web page, you'll find instructions for Ubuntu/GNOME ... if you use KUbuntu/KDE, you can find help on this page.
