Some matrix based preconditioning techniques for PDEs defined on structured and/or unstructured grid

The talk is mainly divided into two parts. First, the combination preconditioners on structued grid is discussed, and their properties and condition number estimates are presented for a model problem using Fourier analysis. In the second half of the talk, we will see how we could extend these methods to the unstructured grid case using non-overlapping domain decomposition framework. Numerical results will be presented for convection-diffusion problems and for some problems from the Florida matrix market collection.
