arrow General Information
This workshop aims to increase the chance of getting European Systems papers accepted at a major conference. This first edition focuses on PhD students preparing a forthcoming submission, e.g. to OSDI. It includes an intensive online paper preparation period, followed by a full-day, hands-on physical meeting, hosted at the EuroSys 2006 conference http://www.cs.kuleuven.ac.be/conference/EuroSys2006/.
The workshop will provide a forum for students to explain their PhD work, discuss different ways of presenting it, and receive feedback from peers as well as experts in the field. We will try to provide input and guidance to a submission to an upcoming Systems conference, preferably OSDI 2006, focusing more on organization, presentation and writing of the paper, and less on the technical issues.
Throughout the preparation period, a shepherd will be assigned to work with each group of authors. The shepherd will give feedback about the structure and presentation of the work. During the meeting, papers will be presented and discussed critically. The meeting will also offer a panel discussion on writing technical papers.
The workshop is by invitation, with numbers limited in order to work effectively. Invitations will be based on applications received in response to this call. We anticipate most participants will be PhD students at European institutions working on the paper topic since at least one year. We will also consider applications from junior faculty and from students outside Europe.
If you would like to participate then you should submit the following: (a) A short outline (no more than 500 words) of your proposed paper, describing the main research challenges and your new ideas for solving them. (b) A letter of recommendation from your advisor.

arrow Submissions

Submissions should be in plain text (no attachments; simple ASCII text in the body of your message), in English, and submitted by email to rodrigo.rodrigues@inesc-id.pt. Expect a confirmation of the reception of your submission. Please include information about how far along you are in your Ph.D. program, and forthcoming conferences where you intend to submit this work. Your advisor should send his or her statement directly in a separate email containing your name in the subject line.
